Ben Shelton recently ventured into another sport, as he was spotted playing soccer with his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman. The couple went public with their relationship in March 2025. Rodman is a professional soccer player who plays as a forward for the United States national team and the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
Rodman was instrumental in the American team’s success at the 2024 Paris Olympics, scoring three goals during the tournament and contributing to the team’s gold medal victory. She has also won the NWSL Championship and was named NWSL Rookie of the Year, among other accolades.

Before the start of his 2026 season, Shelton has been enjoying his off-season with family, friends, and loved ones. He spent time with Rodman, attending an NBA game, an NBA G League game, even training together, and much more.
The former World No. 5 recently took to social media to share a video of himself participating in a soccer session with Rodman. In his caption, he expressed that playing soccer for the first time was “fun.”
“First time playing soccer was fun ????,” Shelton captioned his Instagram post.
However, he later backtracked, jokingly commenting that he was “lying” about the fun aspect of playing soccer.
“I’m lying,” Shelton commented.
During the 2025 season, Shelton won only one title: the 2025 Canadian Open. He finished as the runner-up at the BMW Open in Munich and reached the semifinals at the Australian Open, the BOSS Open, and the Citi Open in Washington, D.C.
Ben Shelton To Begin 2026 Season at ASB Classic
Shelton will kick off his 2026 season by competing in the ASB Classic, which is set to take place from January 12 to January 17, 2026. The matches of the tournament will be played on the outdoor hard courts at the Manuka Doctor Arena (ASB Tennis Centre) in Auckland, New Zealand.
In addition to the former World No. 5, players expected to participate in the ATP 250 hard-court tournament in Auckland include defending champion Gaël Monfils, Casper Ruud, Sebastián Báez, Jakub Menšík, Luciano Darderi, Cameron Norrie, and Lorenzo Sonego.
“For me it’s been great preparation, great matches, and a place that I feel comfortable. I think that to start the year it’s nice to be somewhere that you’re comfortable and feels like home. I enjoy playing there,” Shelton said.
Shelton recorded his best performance at the ASB Classic in 2024. Again, he was the top seed and started in the second round after a first-round bye. He won his opening match against Fábián Marozsán, followed by a victory over Roberto Carballés Baena in the quarterfinals. He was defeated by the eventual runner-up, Taro Daniel, in the semifinals.
Following the conclusion of the 2026 ASB Classic, the 23-year-old is scheduled to compete at the Australian Open. In 2025, he reached the semifinals at the Melbourne Major before losing to the eventual champion, Jannik Sinner.
