Singer Barry Manilow announced that he will undergo surgery to remove a cancerous spot in his lung and will reschedule his concerts for January.
Manilow, 82, said doctors discovered the cancer after he had a long bout of bronchitis — six weeks, then a relapse for another five weeks.
“My wonderful doctor ordered an MRI just to make sure everything was okay,” Manilow wrote. Instagram. “An MRI detected a cancerous spot in my left lung that had to be removed. It’s very fortunate (and great for the doctor) that it was caught so early.”
The singer added that doctors don’t think the cancer has spread, so for now he expects “no chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and a rerun of ‘I Love Lucy.'”
A statement from Manilow’s representatives explained that the spot was in the first stage of the tumor, and that surgery would take place in late December.
Manilow will recover in January and plans to return to work with Valentine’s Day weekend concerts beginning February 12 at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino, then his concerts will resume on February 28 in Tampa, Florida.
Manilow was scheduled to perform ten concerts in January at nine locations in Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Ohio. It will now be held in February.
