Pickup truck catches on fire due to improperly disposed of fireworks, Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office says

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — A pickup truck caught fire Friday evening because fireworks were improperly disposed of, the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office said.

According to MCFMO, North Montgomery County Fire Department crews responded to reports of a vehicle fire in Emerson Estates near Interstate 105 East.

Authorities said residents reported the fire after they set off fireworks, picked up debris, and placed it in the bed of their truck.

Officials did not say whether anyone was injured in the fire.

MCFMO shared with the public ways to safely and properly dispose of fireworks. Officials said you should soak spent fireworks in a bucket of water for at least 15 minutes to get rid of any residue, adding that they recommend leaving the debris overnight.

You should then drain any excess water, and place the fireworks debris in a sealable bag in order to conserve moisture, preventing the debris from drying out and re-igniting, fire officials said.

Finally, officials said you should place any bags of debris as far away as possible from your home or anything that could catch fire and cause damage.
