A Rhode Island teen who was already out on bail for a weapons offense has been arrested in connection with a stabbing on a crowded beach earlier this week that sent beachgoers fleeing in panic.
Willie Medina, 18, a Pawtucket resident, was taken into custody Friday by Rhode Island State Police.
He will be turned over to the Narragansett Police Department.
He was charged with felony assault and was arraigned Friday, Narragansett Police Chief Kyle Reckas said.
Authorities allege Medina was involved in a May 19 stabbing at Narragansett Beach, where hundreds of teenagers were crowding the area.
Police officers responded to the beach amid reports of a stabbing and found three people with minor injuries.
No suspects have been identified at this time. Ricas did not specify how investigators linked Medina to the violence on the beach.
At that time, authorities said several other disturbances broke out when hundreds of people on the beach tried to leave at once, officials said.
Two unidentified adults were arrested and charged with simple assault, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
Police indicated that these arrests do not appear to be related to the stabbing incident.
The authorities did not reveal the motives for the violence.
At the time of the crime, Medina was out on bail in a separate incident in which he was accused of carrying a gun without a license or permit, shooting in a small area, SabotageAnd disorderly behaviour.
