A popular Swedish candy store in the South End was robbed at knifepoint on Tuesday, police and business said.

Madeleine Candy, on Clarendon Street in Southend, said: “At the end of the day, we will not allow the actions of this loser man to spoil the atmosphere of our happy place.” Posted on social media.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., a “white or light-skinned Hispanic” man wearing a maroon shirt, gray sweatpants, and a gray hat entered the candy store. Boston Police Department said.

The man was holding a knife and demanding money from an employee. BPD said he robbed the store for an “unknown amount of currency.”

One of the women was working at the time of the robbery. The Swedish candy store said the employee was not physically injured.

“I’m so sad that she was put in this situation, but I’m so proud of the way she handled it. She stayed calm, followed her instincts, and stayed safe,” Madeleine said.

The candy store has 24/7 video surveillance, the company said.

Madeleine said on social media that the small business is not the only store robbed this week.

Boston police on Sunday responded to a business on Tremont Street and found a missing cash register, but were not immediately able to contact the business manager, a department spokesperson told Boston.com.

The police spokesman said the department is investigating the Tremont Street incident separately from the candy store robbery.

“Last night wasn’t a financial loss, it was a violation of that sense of security,” Madeleine said.

BPD said anyone with information regarding the incident should contact investigators at 617-343-5619.
