Attempted home invasion, kidnapping reported in Union City

(BCN) – Police in Union City are investigating what they believe is an attempted home burglary, the department said Sunday.

On Friday at 7:45 a.m., officers responded to a report of multiple armed suspects outside a residence. At first, police thought it might be a case of kidnapping, but the child in question was found safe inside the home and no kidnapping occurred.

Based on the initial investigation, the crime is now believed to be an attempted home burglary, the department said.

According to police, a girl was outside her home when she saw the suspects approaching. She ran into her house and told her family to call the police. The suspects fled the area immediately after they were confronted by residents.

The suspects are described as four men wearing dark hooded jackets and face masks. At least two of them were armed with pistols. They were seen leaving the area in a white Ford Taurus, according to police.

The Union City Police Department does not believe this case is related to an attempted kidnapping reported earlier in the week, “because the circumstances and descriptions of the suspects are inconsistent between the two cases,” they said.

Anyone with information helpful to this case is asked to contact Det. Michael Bedford at (510) 675-5266 or michaelb@unioncity.org.
