About Microwave Guide
Microwave Guide exists to answer one question people ask every single day: can you microwave this?
Most of us have stood in the kitchen holding a container, a takeout box, or a paper plate and wondered whether it belongs in the microwave. The answers online are scattered across forum threads, comment sections, and half-remembered advice from relatives. Much of it is outdated, some of it is wrong, and almost none of it tells you where the answer came from. We built this site to fix that: one definitive safety chart plus a set of focused guides covering the materials people actually ask about, from styrofoam and paper plates to plastic, foil, glass, and baby bottles.
How we research every guide
Every safety claim on this site traces back to a public authority or the manufacturer’s own label. Our primary sources are the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, along with manufacturer label information. We do not invent safety rules, we do not copy content from other publishers, and we do not improvise advice when the guidance is unclear. When the guidance is genuinely mixed, we say so and explain the range of opinions instead of pretending there is one answer.
Our process for every guide follows five steps. First, we research the question across official sources. Second, we study what people actually ask, using search data, community questions, and real kitchen scenarios. Third, we plan the article around those real questions rather than around keywords. Fourth, we write the guide in plain language. Fifth, we verify every safety claim against the source guidance before publishing. If a claim cannot be verified, it does not ship.
Our editorial standards
Three rules govern everything we publish. One, safety claims must be consistent with USDA or FDA guidance or with the manufacturer’s label. Two, every guide must directly answer the question in its title before giving background. Three, we update pages when guidance changes or when readers report errors. A safety site that goes stale becomes dangerous, so freshness is a priority here.
Who we are
Microwave Guide is an independent information website. We are not affiliated with any microwave manufacturer, container brand, or kitchenware company. We do not sell anything, and we do not publish sponsored content disguised as advice. Our only product is the information on these pages.
What this site is not
Nothing here is professional, medical, legal, or food-safety advice for your specific situation. General guidance cannot cover every product variant, every microwave wattage, and every edge case. For your own safety, read the label on your specific container, wrap, or appliance and follow it.
Follow the label
If the label on your product disagrees with something you read here, follow the label. The manufacturer tested your exact product under your exact conditions. A general information site, even a careful one, cannot replace that. When in doubt, leave it out of the microwave and use the stove or oven.
Corrections policy
We work to keep every page accurate and current. If you spot an error in our safety chart or in any guide, tell us through the Contact page and we will check it against the source guidance. Confirmed errors are corrected promptly. We would rather fix a page than defend one.
Contact
Questions, corrections, or suggestions are welcome. Reach us any time through the Contact page. We read every message and aim to respond within a few business days.
