HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Three people, including a Houston police officer, were injured in a crash on the Katy Freeway at Beltway 8 Sunday morning, authorities said.
According to the Houston Police Department, an officer and a wrecker driver responded to a driver who needed assistance on the Katy Expressway near Beltway 8 at approximately 2:50 a.m. Sunday. Officials said the driver was a woman and had four children in her car.
The officer and the wrecker driver were helping the woman put gas in her car when a blue Honda Accord struck the officer’s vehicle, causing injuries to the officer, the wrecker driver and the woman, authorities said.
Investigators said the officer and the driver of the wreck suffered minor injuries, but added that the woman suffered serious injuries to her leg. The four children in the woman’s car were unharmed, authorities said, adding that family members came to pick up the children from the scene.
The officer, the driver of the wreck and the woman were taken to a local hospital, where, according to officials, none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
The suspect driving a blue Honda Accord was arrested for DWI, according to police.
The crash caused all major westbound lanes on the Katy Expressway to be closed, with the scene cleared and all lanes reopened by 6:50 a.m., authorities said.
