DENVER (KDVR) — Two Aurora police cruisers were struck over the weekend by people believed to be under the influence of alcohol behind the wheel.
The Aurora Police Department said in a post Monday that officers were fortunate to only suffer minor injuries.
The first incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m. Saturday on the Airport Road side. An unmarked patrol car was about to complete a traffic stop when “suddenly, a driver slammed into the back of the patrol car,” the department said.
Police said several hard cans and other empty cans were found in the car, and the driver was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
Then, less than 24 hours later, around 12:32 a.m. Sunday, officers were heading onto East Mississippi Street from South Chambers Road when another suspected drunk driver stopped their patrol car.
“Let’s be real: There’s nothing cool, funny, or justified about drunk driving. Ask for a ride, call a friend, walk, crawl, do literally anything else, just don’t drive drunk. It’s not worth the risk,” the police department wrote.
The officers were taken to hospitals with minor injuries, including two of them.
