CHERRY CREEK STATE PARK, Colo. (KDVR) — Before you head out into the field to hunt deer, ducks, elk or any type of game in Colorado, you’ll need a hunter safety card.
“The Hunter Safety Card will give you the knowledge to get out and be in the field and hunt safely,” said Michelle Seibert, manager of Cherry Creek State Park. If you were born on or after January 1, 1949, you will need a Hunter Safety Card.
You don’t get a hunter safety card; You have to earn it.
“You have to take a course. There are courses some of which are offered online and then you go to a one-day class, and then we show you where you can take a two-day class,” Seibert said.
You’ll learn the basics of what to do and what not to do when pursuing game in our great state. And it happens that you are lucky. You can take a hunter safety course at locations throughout Colorado. In the class you will learn the minimum required to be safe and keep others safe in the field.
And yes, if you feel you need to be a Nimrod, and the word Nimrod means a hunter, you will need to know the rules of firearms safety.
“When you take the class, they’ll have all different types of guns and learn about safety. Where the safety is on the gun. How you need to hold the gun,” Seibert said.
Now, do you need the coveted Angler Safety Card for fishing? no. Just don’t tie yourself up. However, you will need a license to fish.
