After a scorching 3-0 start to the 2025 season, reality has hit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers hard. A wave of injuries was bound to catch up to them, and following that perfect start, the team has stumbled to a 6-4 record. Now, with a pivotal Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams on the horizon, Tampa Bay’s depth and resilience are being tested more than ever.
The offensive line has been in shambles all season, and the skill position group has not fared much better, with key players like Bucky Irving, Mike Evans, and Chris Godwin missing extended time. That situation, however, allowed rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka to shine, but his status is now also in jeopardy for this week’s contest.
Will Emeka Egbuka Play Against the Rams?
A spectacular find for Tampa Bay in the 2025 NFL Draft, Egbuka exploded onto the scene with a sensational start to his career. While his production has cooled off to some extent in recent weeks, he has already proven to be a dangerous threat on the field.
Through 10 games, the rookie has accumulated 717 receiving yards and six touchdowns, posting three separate games with over 100 receiving yards. His performance has earned him the 25th rank on PFSN’s WR Impact metric and is a major reason for the Buccaneers’ current record.
Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, the depleted state of the wide receiver room has made Egbuka indispensable, particularly heading into a crucial matchup where the team hopes to avoid its third consecutive loss.
The challenge ahead is significant, as the Rams have arguably been the best team in the entire league this season. They feature a top-five offense and defense, led by an MVP favorite in quarterback Matthew Stafford. Facing them at full strength would be a difficult task.
Making matters worse, Tampa Bay may have to compete with a roster in shambles. A mysterious illness has suddenly swept through the locker room, and as a result, Egbuka was limited in Wednesday’s walkthrough.
He was one of six players limited on Wednesday, a list that also included Baker Mayfield, Luke Goedeke, Graham Barton, Dan Feeney, and Logan Hall. While the team hopes Egbuka will be ready to go against the Rams, there is no certainty surrounding the situation.
This adds to a challenging stretch for the rookie. Earlier in the 2025 season, a hamstring injury limited him for some time and eventually led to his early exit from the game against the San Francisco 49ers. After being held under 50 receiving yards in three of his last five appearances, the rookie will be looking to get back on track if he can make it into the lineup against Los Angeles.
