October has been a tough month for Tyler Reddick and his family, and the reason behind it has nothing to do with his on-track performances. Instead, the Reddick family has been going through a tough time owing to their four-month-old son, Rookie, being diagnosed with a tumor in his chest that is affecting his heart.
Reddick’s wife, Alexa, has been active on social media throughout the tenure, sharing critical updates around their son’s recovery journey. And the same was the case after a recent major surgery involving Rookie.

In May, earlier this year, the Reddick family was blessed with their second baby boy, Rookie Reddick. Shortly after being born, Rookie slipped into a medical crisis, and hasn’t known life outside the Medical Care Center.
Having shown signs of heart failure, Rookie has been battling through numerous health-related setbacks, kicking off a series of medical procedures.
The latest update in the ongoing dilemma is a positive one, and the family wants to enjoy some alone time to celebrate.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Alexa shared an update on the condition of her baby, revealing that the doctors had to remove one of Rookie’s kidneys to improve his chance of survival. With the next few days being critical for the family, Reddick’s wife will take a sabbatical from social media to prioritize her family.
She wrote, “Rookie came back one kidney lighter. He is recovering and still coming out of anesthesia. The surgery went well and his team is confident he will not need treatment after. The next couple days he will be sore so I will take a break here while we get him over this hump. They are watching his BP & heart to see how they are responding.”
Rookie’s surgery comes shortly after Alexa shared the news that the tumor was choking the renal vein and artery of her son. As such, the heart needed to pump blood faster, causing it to grow larger in size. Subsequently, the doctors decided to remove a kidney as they said that it was no longer functioning.
Meanwhile, Tyler (Reddick) has taken note of his wife’s resiliency as he continues to fulfill his duties in NASCAR. He admitted to being proud of her throughout the process, claiming that it has been a “difficult situation for both of us but she’s been a great one.”
