'This is some crazy, crazy technology': Tesla could demo flying car before end of year, Musk teases

(KRON) – Tesla CEO Elon Musk raised the possibility of unveiling a flying car before the end of the year in a recent interview with comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan.

In the podcast, Rogan asks Musk if the company is still working on a new version of the Roadster.

“Yes. We’re getting close to demoing the prototype,” Musk said. “The only thing I can guarantee is that this product demo will be unforgettable.”

Rogan pushed Musk to provide more details about the project. “Can you say more? What do you mean?” he asked.

“My friend Peter Thiel once said the future was supposed to have flying cars, but we don’t have flying cars,” Musk said. “…I think if Peter wants a flying car, he should be able to afford one.”

Rogan asked Musk if the car would have retractable wings. However, Musk revealed few details about the design.

“I can’t do the unveiling before the unveiling,” he said. “I think it has a chance to be the most unique product ever unveiled. It has a chance.”

Musk said he hopes the car will debut by the end of the year or within “a few months.”

“We need to make sure it works,” he said. “This is some crazy, crazy technology we’ve got in this car. Crazy technology. Crazy.”

Musk admitted that the design of the Roadster will be different from what the company previously announced.

“Is it even a car? I’m not sure,” Musk said as he poured himself a cup of coffee. “It looks like a car. Let’s put it this way, it’s crazier than anything James Bond… If you took all the James Bond cars and combined them, it would be crazier than that.”

Musk ended the discussion by inviting Rogan to inspect the car shortly before its unveiling.

“100%,” Rogan replied. “Yes, let’s go.”
