“SNL” returns to the air for episode 16 of its 51st season on Saturday, April 4, with Jack Black as host and Jack White as musical guest.
Black was hosting “SNL” for the fifth time, joining the illustrious five-star club nearly a year after his last hosting gig, on April 5, 2025.
As it happens, Black was also the host of one of my favorite “SNL” episodes of all time. which aired on December 17, 2005.
This episode first appeared for Two A-shaped holeshilarious drawing 10 to 1 (Spelling bee), Funhouse Classic TV (Christmas among the Jews) and Sunday is lazythe digital short film by Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell that popularized a then-nascent streaming platform called YouTube.
This time, Black started off his night with one of the show’s usual five-time sketches. After being welcomed into the exclusive club by fellow five-stars Jonah Hill, Tina Fey, Candice Bergen, and Melissa McCarthy, White was joined by Black, who served as the musical guest for the fifth time (sixth if you count his only appearance with The White Stripes).
True, Black upped the energy of what had become a somewhat tired premise by launching into an SNL-ified version of “Seven Nation Army,” accompanied by White and a team of dancers. (Spoiler alert: If you’re a fan of Black’s musical comedy, this episode has you covered.)
Watch the videos below to see highlights from Jack Black’s “SNL” episode, including Black’s opening monologue, a pair of musical performances from Jack White, and all the characters visiting the “Weekend Update” office.
