Sheriff's office arrests suspect in Williamson County church break-in

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man in connection with a recent break-in at a Liberty Hill church.

According to the sheriff’s officeGregory Dwayne Faden, 45, was arrested and charged with burglary and is being held in the Travis County Jail on an “unrelated burglary charge filed by the Austin Police Department.”

last week, WCSO posted about the break-in on social media and asked the public for help Identify the suspect. The break-in happened at Vintage Church on Sunday, September 28th.

The incident was the latest in a series of church break-ins in metro Austin. Last September, there were break-ins at Trinity Anglican Church in Johnstown and Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Lago Vista. The Travis County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) is assisting in the investigation of these incidents.

Nathan Brown, pastor of Old Liberty Hill Church, told KXAN last week that the suspect didn’t end up stealing anything, but he did cause an estimated $3,000 in damage.

WCSO said Faden “confessed to burglarizing the old church” and “told investigators he committed the crime because of a drug addiction and financial debt.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the break-in at the church in Liberty Hill “showed similarities” to other churches and building burglaries reported in Johnstown, Travis County, Manor and Austin, including the use of a red SUV and a suspect matching Faden’s description.

The Sheriff’s Office did not clarify whether Vaden would face charges in connection with the break-ins and burglaries at churches and other buildings.
