San Francisco firefighters injured in Wednesday morning blaze

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Two San Francisco firefighters were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after suffering injuries while responding to a major three-alarm house fire in the Marina District, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

Nearly 145 firefighters battled the blaze at the three-story home in the 2500 block of Chestnut Street, fire officials said. The fire was contained and controlled until six in the morning

Earlier Wednesday morning at 4:15 a.m., arriving firefighters saw heavy fire from the second floor of the building. That fire was initially extinguished, but the fire spread to the third floor and to the three-story building on the left, according to San Francisco Fire Chief Dean Crispin.

Two firefighters were injured during the response and were transported to an area hospital. Crispin said the two firefighters fell from the third floor to the second floor. The extent of his injuries is unknown. According to the fire chief, both are in stable condition.

Residents of both buildings have been evacuated, and officials are working to relocate them, Crispin said.

The building where the fire broke out was under some level of construction, which may have allowed the fire to spread through floors more easily, Crispin said.

A firefighting unit went to the scene to find out the causes and source of the fire.

Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area of ​​Chestnut Street between Baker and Broderick Streets due to fire activity.
