Etcheverry was seeded eighth at the 2026 Rio Open. He began his singles campaign by defeating compatriot Francisco Comesaña with a score of 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the first round. He then overcame qualifier Vilius Gaubas in the second round with a scoreline of 7-6(1), 6-4.

In the quarterfinals, the former world No. 27 eliminated lucky loser Jaime Faria with a score of 7-6(4), 6-4, and then secured his place in the finals by triumphing over Vít Kopřiva with a score of 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-6(4) in the semifinals. In the championship match, Etcheverry defeated Alejandro Tabilo with a score of 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4, winning the 2026 Rio Open and claiming his first ATP Tour title, as well as his first title of the season.

Following his victory at the Rio Open, Etcheverry shared a series of pictures on social media, one of himself posing with the trophy, winning moments from the final match, and more.

In reaction to Etcheverry’s triumph, Djokovic celebrated the Argentine’s win on social media.

Maribel Nadal, Holger Rune, and his compatriot Francisco Cerúndolo also extended their congratulations to Etcheverry for winning the 2026 Rio Open.

“Congrats man ???? ????,” Rune wrote.

“My brother the challenge, you know everything ❤️,” Cerúndolo commented.

German tennis legend Boris Becker appreciated Etcheverry for celebrating his title victory with the ball kids at the tournament.

“Lovely footage from Rio with the winner Etche !!!” Becker posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Etcheverry was next scheduled to compete at the 2026 Chile Open, but he withdrew due to fatigue and was replaced by lucky loser Vilius Gaubas.

Looking ahead, Etcheverry will next compete at the 2026 Indian Wells Masters, scheduled for March 4 to March 15, 2026, with the main draw matches held on the outdoor hard courts at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
