NBA Insider Reveals Warriors’ Rumored Offer to Nets for Michael Porter Jr., Including $46,800,000 Forward

Michael Porter Jr. is a top trade target for the Golden State Warriors amid their efforts to upgrade their roster. One NBA Insider revealed a rumored trade package that they’re offering in exchange for his talents.

The NBA Player Guessing Game allows you to guess the NBA player based on clues about their team, division, height, jersey number, points, and experience.

Warriors Predicted To Offload Disgruntled Forward To Acquire Michael Porter Jr.

Porter has embraced and grown into his new role as the Nets’ number one option. Since being traded to Brooklyn, his numbers have shot up significantly. In fact, he is on pace to post career-high numbers across the board this season.

His hot performance this season has made him an even more attractive trade target for several teams, including the Warriors.

According to NBA Insider Brett Siegel, Golden State’s front office is willing to surrender significant assets for him. Those assets are Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield, Moses Moody, and one first-round pick.

Kuminga’s inclusion is not a surprise, as the Warriors have long been rumored to be shopping him. His $46,800,000 contract has always been their top trade piece, and it is increasingly likely that he will be finally moved before the Feb. 5 trade deadline.

Siegel also wrote that the Warriors are pursuing New Orleans’ Pelicans wings, Trey Murphy III and Herbert Jones, as top targets besides Porter.

However, the key difference is that the Warriors are willing to offer two first-rounders for Murphy, while the same can’t be said for Porter. According to Siegel, the reason for this is that the Warriors are open to including both Moody and Kuminga in place of Porter.

The Warriors are in desperate need of an offensive boost. It is clear that their offense currently relies mainly on Stephen Curry, and it stalls or falls flat when he isn’t on the court. This is evidenced by their offensive rating of 118.6 when he’s on the court, which drops to 107.7 when he isn’t.

As such, Porter makes sense as their number one priority. In 29 games this season, the Nets forward has averaged 25.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He’s also sinking 49.0 percent of his attempts, which includes a blazing hot 39.7 percent on his 3-pointers.

Even if he’s paired with Curry, those numbers are unlikely to drop significantly. Porter will likely be the secondary option next to him, and the primary option when Curry isn’t there. Having them together means there are two players on the court capable of creating offense for themselves, which means the attention of opposing defenses won’t be as concentrated.

However, there haven’t been any clear indicators that the Nets are looking to trade Porter. Brooklyn’s front office could decide that they’ll keep him and build around him, especially since he’s putting together an All-Star-worthy season. On the other hand, they could decide that they are willing to trade him, but only if the Warriors sweeten the deal by including other assets, especially in terms of draft compensation.
