ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) — Multiple vegetation fires along Interstate 70 remain under investigation after three broke out within about 10 minutes Tuesday night.
“At approximately 7:30 p.m., Arvada Fire responded to a vegetation fire. We ended up responding to two additional exterior fires. We have fire investigators who were on scene and are currently investigating,” Arvada Fire Public Information Officer Jillian Moore said.
Several juniper bushes, which Arvada Fire says are highly flammable, were burned outside the StorQuest Self Storage facility along northbound I-70 Frontage Road. Two other vegetation fires were reported near Dover and Garrison streets.
Arvada Fire says it’s very unusual for multiple fires to burn nearby in such a short period of time, which could strain its resources. Wheat Ridge Police confirmed with FOX31 that the Garrison Street fire is being investigated as arson. It is not yet known whether the other two fires were intentional or related to each other.
Arvada Fire offered some tips for homeowners and businesses to protect their buildings from unexpected fires.
“We always recommend a defensible space for our residents, choosing non-combustible materials, keeping them in a remote ignition zone, five to ten feet, making sure we keep foliage off the ground, cutting our trees, so again, choosing the right vegetation outside your home will potentially save your home,” Moore said.
There were no reports of injuries in the three fires.
