The man allegedly said the weapon used to stab his friend never belonged to him, according to police.
A Cape Cod man is facing a battery charge after he stabbed his friend during a fight at a bachelor party in Miami Beach.
Olajuwon Shawn Dickerson, 32, of Marston Mills, was arrested on March 15 just before 3 a.m. and charged with aggravated battery occasioning great bodily harm, according to the Daily Mail. NBC10 Boston. During his initial court appearance in Florida, he was ordered held without bail.
When officers responded to 1200 Ocean Drive in Miami Beach the day they arrested Dickerson, they found him bleeding profusely from his left arm. They also found Brian Gordon, the alleged victim, with a stab wound to his left abdomen, NBC10 reported.
Witnesses told police that Dickerson and Gordon were friends who were sharing an Airbnb with two other people in Miami Gardens for a bachelor party in Miami Beach, according to NBC10. When the two men met several women at bars on Ocean Drive, Gordon allegedly became upset because they were only interested in Dickerson, according to officials.
The two men later argued about taking the women with them in their SUV, and the situation escalated when Dickerson approached Gordon, who was in the driver’s seat, NBC10 reported. When they separated, Dickerson’s left arm was bleeding, and Gordon was bleeding from his abdomen, according to officials.
One witness said that when he and other witnesses tried to help Dickerson and stop the bleeding, he handed him a folding knife covered in blood, according to NBC10. When police arrived, they took the knife, and both Dickerson and Gordon were taken to the hospital, according to officials.
Gordon later told police that Dickerson was asking him to get out of the car, but he refused because he had paid for the car, NBC10 reported. He also said he knew Dickerson had a knife and that he began defending himself when he realized he had been stabbed.
Dickerson told law enforcement that he remembered leaving the bar with Gordon and his friend, but he didn’t remember anything that happened after that, according to NBC10. He denied getting into an argument with Gordon, and allegedly told police he never had a knife, according to officials.
However, police said the injuries to both men matched the knife that allegedly belonged to Dickerson. Gordon was later released from the hospital, while Dickerson remained receiving treatment, according to officials.
If Dickerson posts bond, he must avoid any contact, personal or otherwise, with Gordon. Dickerson’s attorney information was not immediately available.
