‘Lovers’ Lane Murders’ case: Officials share details after Cheryl Henry & Andy Atkinson murders went unsolved for nearly 36 years

Harris County, Texas — After the murder of a young couple remained unsolved for nearly four decades, authorities provided an update on the case Friday morning.

Floyd Parrott was recently charged with the 1990 murders of Andy Atkinson and Cheryl Henry – often referred to as the “Lovers Street Murders.” Parrott appeared in court in Nebraska, where he was arrested this week.

During a news conference Friday morning held by the Houston Police Department, the FBI and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, investigators said they believe there may be more victims.

Harris County District Attorney Shawn Terry said more than 100 persons of interest have been examined over time as several investigators worked the case over the years. But he added that Parrott was not one of the hundreds of people interviewed.

Authorities released photos of Parrott dating back to 1990 because they said there may be more victims. The DA said they have information that Parrott “falsely” “pretended to be law enforcement” and are looking for people he may have stopped before and after the murders.

Officials released photos of the car they said may have been used by Floyd Parrott, a suspect in the “Lovers’ Lane Murders” case, as he allegedly posed as law enforcement.

Officials have not said whether Parrott was acting as a law enforcement official on the night of the killing.

On August 23, 1990, Atkinson and Henry, 21 and 22 at the time, went on a date in west Houston and never returned home.

That night, a security guard on routine patrol noticed a car parked in a cul-de-sac that had not moved for some time. When the guard approached, he discovered an unresponsive woman inside. An unresponsive man was also found nearby. The two victims were later identified as Henry and Atkinson. Authorities said they suffered fatal wounds to their necks.

Now, nearly 36 years later, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has announced Parrott’s arrest.

Records show Parrott was 28 years old at the time of the murders. He is accused of cutting the young couple’s throats after they spent some time parked in the secluded area after a night out dancing.

In 2008, investigators linked DNA from the crime scene to a separate rape case, but they were still unable to identify the suspect.

Court documents show the separation finally occurred in 2025, when investigators reexamining the case received a tip that Parrott had been named. That information — combined with renewed DNA analysis and additional police work — led to the charges, according to records.

“This case has affected the Henry and Atkinson families, as well as our community, for more than three decades,” Terry said. “Our prosecutors, working with HPD and the FBI, came up with hundreds of leads, but they never gave up.”

Parrott is awaiting extradition from Nebraska to Harris County, but “has exercised his right to appeal,” according to Terry.

Officials said Parrott spent most of his life in the Houston area and left less than two years ago. They said he worked at clubs and auto parts stores over the years and may have been affiliated with a wrecker at one point.
