DENVER (KDVR) – A Loveland police officer used a BolaWrap to stop a fleeing suspect, According to a post on X from the Loveland Police Department.
Bolas are not a new instrument, but rather date back thousands of years, with some believing that early concepts could date back millions of years. According to the Peach State Archaeological Society.
A typical ball might look like two stones on either end of a rope that can be hung over a target for understanding.
The idea of an officer waving the ball above his head before throwing it at a fleeing suspect makes for a fun scenario, but the reality is that the ball has seen some serious hardware upgrades by 2025.
A non-lethal tool used to apprehend suspects, the BolaWrap is approximately the size of a smartphone. Its body resembles a stun gun, with cords fired and attached, but without the shocking effect.
Instead, ropes wrap around the person, constricting their arms or legs, and making them unable to escape.
One of the suspects was seen breaking into the vehicles. The report was filed, and security forces quickly rushed to the scene.
In a video released by the Loveland Police Department, officers located the suspect at the gas station, and when they made contact with him, the suspect began fleeing.
A fast-moving officer was able to keep up with the suspect and eventually used the BolaWrap to engage and arrest the suspect.
Police said he was cooperative while in custody.
Investigators said they found evidence linking the suspect to the robbery, and also discovered that the suspect was in possession of fentanyl.
He was booked into the Larimer County Jail.
