Iga Świątek Revels in Team Win While Sharing Her Health Update Ahead of the Australian Open

Świątek, one of the top players in the United Cup, returned for the 2026 tournament after wrapping up a successful year, during which she clinched three titles in Seoul, Cincinnati, and the Wimbledon Championship.

Apart from this, she ended her season as a World No. 2 for the second time and clocked 62 wins, becoming the first WTA player to end her four back-to-back seasons with wins above sixty since Lindsay Davenport and Martina Hingis.

The Warsaw native, who, with Team Poland, reached the final two times, losing to Germany and the United States, has finally clinched the title after suffering a loss in her final match against Belinda Bencic with a scoreline of 3-6, 6-0, 6-3; however, Hurkacz kept the hope alive after surpassing Stan Wawrinka in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

In the mixed doubles, which was the decider, Jan Zielinski and Katarzyna Kawa clashed against Jakub Paul and Bencic, securing their title in a two-set win, 6-4, 6-3. Świątek, who had lost her semifinal singles to Coco Gauff, reflected on her joy at winning the title and spending admirable moments with the team.

While updating about her health, she said, “Everything is fine. Just super sore. I guess first tournament of the year it costs the body a bit differently than during the season. But I had similar experience last year also. I’ll just get good recovery, couple days off.”

Świątek added, “Also, I know these team events. I love them but they really take a lot of energy from you. I still need to figure out how to balance that maybe in the future (smiling). I get so excited on the bench, yeah, it’s almost like playing a match, honestly.”

The Pole acknowledged her limitations in the match against Bencic, who was named the MVP of the tournament for her elite run, ahead of her first Grand Slam. “Yeah, it’s all good. I for sure physically wasn’t in the second set the best version of myself. Belinda really used it to push me. For sure, I’ll try to get that covered for Australian Open, and we’ll see.”

The next goal for the WTA star would be to clinch the Australian Open, the tournament in which she reached the semifinals in 2022 and 2025, losing to the eventual champion, Madison Keys.
