Hwy 249 crash: HCSO releases video of deputies saving driver from burning car in deadly, wrong-way crash on Tomball Parkway

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — The Harris County Sheriff’s Office released a video Wednesday showing deputies rescuing a driver who was reportedly trapped in a burning car after a wrong-way crash.

HCSO said the accident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 17, on Highway 249, also known as Tomball Parkway, near Spring Cypress.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, a man was driving in the wrong direction on the highway when he collided with another driver.

The wrong-way driver, 25-year-old Julio Alberto Calero Ramirez, was killed, while the other driver remained trapped, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said.

In the video posted, deputies can be heard trying to remove the man as the fire intensifies.

Two deputies working alongside wrecker drivers were able to pull that driver over, officials said.

At last check, the man, who has not been identified, was in hospital in critical condition, but is expected to be OK.
