A Hollywood producer has been sentenced to 146 years in prison for the murders of two women and the sexual assault of seven others.
David Pierce, 43, was arrested in connection with the deaths of Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Azola, 26, and Christy Giles, 24, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
On November 13, 2021, at approximately 3 a.m., Pierce and his roommate, Brandt Osborne, 46, met Giles and Cabrales-Arzola at a party at a warehouse in East Los Angeles. About two hours later, the women left with Pierce and Osbourne and headed back to Pierce’s apartment in Beverly Hills.
While there, Pierce supplied the women with fentanyl and gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), later causing them to suffer a fatal overdose. Within about 35 minutes of arriving at the apartment, one of the women, Cabrales-Arzola, called the rideshare service to pick her up, but neither she nor Giles left the apartment.
About 11 hours later, prosecutors said Pierce pulled Giles out of the apartment. About 90 minutes later, Giles was executed. Pierce drove the two women to different hospitals and fled.
Giles was already dead when she was left outside Culver City Hospital. Cabrales-Arzola was left in a West Los Angeles hospital, where she was resuscitated and spent 11 days in a coma before she died just one day before her 27th birthday.
The two women became friends with each other in 2019 and went out together the night they met Pierce and Osbourne.
Giles was an Alabama native who moved to Los Angeles to work as a model. Her cause of death was listed as multiple drug poisoning. Cocaine, fentanyl, gamma hydroxybutyric acid, or GHB — a painkiller — and ketamine were found in her system, records show.
Cabrales Arzola was an interior designer who was visiting from Mexico. The cause of death was listed as organ failure, but the secondary cause was also multiple drug poisoning. Cocaine and ecstasy were found in her system, records show.
Three men were arrested in connection with the women’s deaths: Pierce, Osborne and Michael Ansbach, who was 47 at the time.
After Pierce’s arrest, at least a dozen women came forward and accused him of sexual assault, saying he lured women to his apartment after a night of partying by pretending to be a well-connected Hollywood insider. According to the Los Angeles Times.
Several alleged victims said that after drinking in his apartment, they would stay awake while he assaulted them. Court documents stated that the assaults occurred between 2005 and 2021, and that seven victims “testified during the trial to Pierce’s sexual depravity and violent tendencies.”
On February 4, 2025, the jury convicted Pierce of the following:
- Two counts of first-degree murder in the killing of Giles and Cabrales-Arzola
- Three counts of forcible rape
- Two counts of sexual penetration using force
- Charge of sodomy using force
- Charged with raping an unconscious woman in sexual assaults on seven different victims
Prosecutors alleged that Osborne, Pierce’s roommate, was an accessory to the murders and that he helped destroy evidence, although the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the charges. A new trial is expected for Osborne, with a pretrial scheduled for November 18.
The third arrested man, Ansbach, became a witness for the prosecution, and testified that he became severely ill after consuming the same amount of cocaine as the women.
Ansbach said Pierce seemed more concerned about taking care of himself when he asked someone to take the two unconscious women to the hospital, the Times reported.
Pierce, a self-described nightlife promoter, maintained his innocence throughout the trial. He testified to using a lot of drugs during that period and claimed that it was not uncommon for people to pass out in his apartment while partying.
On October 29, 2025, Pierce was sentenced to 146 years in prison for the murders of Cabrales-Arzola and Giles and for the sexual assault of seven victims. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life.
“This ruling brings long-awaited justice to Ms. Cabrales-Arzola, Ms. Giles, and the courageous sexual assault victims who came forward and testified,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. “Not only were the victims sexually assaulted, but Ms. Cabrales-Arzola and Ms. Giles’ lives were stolen in one of the most devastating ways – Pierce’s fentanyl-induced sexual assault. This case is a stark reminder of the devastation caused by fentanyl. Fentanyl poisoners who harm and exploit others will be held accountable. Every trial and ruling like this brings us one step closer to deterring criminals from committing these crimes and protecting others.” from a similar fate.”
