Classic? Rock? Broadway? The choice is yours, but some musical accompaniment seems warranted when standing on the top floor of this one-time church that now offers spirited views of the Atlantic Ocean from Nahant.

The 539-square-foot roof and attached sunroom were created when this church was converted into a residential property, a change that retained the central tower with its pyramid-style hip roof and the wide open space of what had previously been the nave with its arched windows.

The 180-square-foot sunroom, which likely was the porch during the church years, is polygon-shaped. The walls have windows (one wall has a door to the deck) with windows. The ceiling is 9 feet high, and the tiled floor has radiant heat.

A wooden staircase descends into the great room—formerly the nave—which is a staggering 1,108 square feet with 17-foot ceilings and hardwood floors. Natural light from windows is available on multiple levels. Much of it is given over to the formal dining area which is defined by one of two sets of pendant lights in the room. The broker said that the second overlooks a billiard table that the current owner will give to the buyer.

Off the great room is a 322-square-foot bedroom with 10-foot ceilings, a gas fireplace in one corner, two exterior windows, and a closet with bi-fold doors. On the same side of the house but not directly connected to the bedroom, there is a 168-square-foot office with the same high ceiling and two exterior windows.

On the other side of the great room, a set of French doors signal entry into a larger family space, including a 630-square-foot space with a gas fireplace designated as the living room. It is directly connected to the kitchen, which occupies its own protrusion area. The 145-square-foot kitchen is U-shaped with a refrigerator and stove on the left arm. The sink was placed below the windows, and more cabinets were installed on the right side. The backsplash is subway tile. A doorway with a pointed Gothic arch leads to a 63-square-foot pantry with built-in shelving. Gas stove and black appliances.

Nearby is a full bathroom that does double duty as a laundry room. The bathroom has a single vanity with a white man-made top, vinyl flooring and a shower behind a curtain on the left. Full-sized laundry appliances are located on the right.

Now, in this reverse approach to the home tour, the final space on the main level is the formal entry with a tiled floor.

But where is the primary bedroom? The second staircase on the right side of the nave leads to the suite, which includes the primary bedroom, two other bedrooms, and a full bathroom. The master bedroom and second bedroom are each approximately 265 square feet, and both have a double set of bi-fold wardrobes along one wall. The bedrooms also have two windows on the exterior walls. Both have direct access to the 119-square-foot full bathroom, which includes one vanity, tile flooring, and a shower/tub. The third bedroom is distinctly smaller at about 85 square feet, but the walk-in closet makes up for its size.

Given its origin as a building hosting a community, there is another area to explore. This is the ground floor, and has its own entrance at the back of the house to a two-bedroom apartment with kitchenette, family room with gas fireplace, full private bathroom and separate laundry area.

The next landlord will have to do due diligence regarding the city’s rental permitting process.
