CHP takes wanted driver into custody in Ontario after felony pursuit

A police pursuit of a felony suspect in Ontario ended Monday night after California Highway Patrol units surrounded the white car following an hour-long pursuit that began in the San Fernando Valley area.

Authorities say the chase was initiated by LAPD officers before the CHP took over when the suspect entered Interstate 60 heading east. During the chase, the driver was seen traveling the wrong way on the highway, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic before turning around and continuing to flee.

Aerial footage from Sky5 captured the dramatic moments as the badly damaged car, believed to be driving on a double-track, continued eastwards with several CHP patrol cars close behind. Sparks were seen flying from the undercarriage of the vehicle as it swerved between lanes.

The chase ended near Ontario after several CHP units successfully surrounded the suspect’s vehicle, cornering it on a highway ramp. Officers quickly approached the vehicle with their weapons in hand, and ordered the driver out before taking the suspect into custody.

No injuries were reported during the chase or arrest. Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted as officers cleared the scene and began processing evidence from the suspect’s vehicle.

Officials have not yet revealed the identity of the driver or the nature of the criminal charges involved. CHP investigators continue to piece together the chain of events that led up to the chase, including where and how it first began under the authority of the LAPD.

The investigation remains active.
