Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter was the center of controversy on Thursday during the team’s showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.
Carter was ejected just six seconds into the season opener following a confrontation with Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.
Now, fans are calling for the NFL to issue a suspension.
Fans Call for Eagles DT Jalen Carter To Be Suspended
The incident occurred just after the opening kickoff and before the Cowboys’ first offensive play.
While Eagles trainers were tending to an injured player, Carter approached the Cowboys’ huddle and exchanged words with Prescott. This led to Carter apparently spitting on the 32-year-old quarterback, resulting in him being assessed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and being ejected from the game.

Fans lit up social media immediately after the incident, with many labeling Carter’s actions “inexcusable.” Some argued that beyond the immediate penalty, harsher discipline from the league is necessary.
“I hope the league and the Eagles suspend and fine him!! Disgusting!!” one fan said.

“I would expect them to suspend him just to send the message that sh*t like that won’t be tolerated,” another fan wrote.
Reactions called for Carter to be suspended for multiple games.
“Suspend him for multiple games. One of the worst things you can do to someone,” one fan said.
“YES, DEFINITELY! SUSPEND HIM FOR AT LEAST 4 GAMES!” another fan said.

“Spitting on someone is so despicable. Suspend him for 4 games,” another user said.
It wasn’t just fans reacting with plenty of passion, either. Indianapolis Colts reporter James Boyd shared a similar point of view.
“Although Jalen Carter will basically miss this entire game, I’m not kidding when I say I’d suspend him for ANOTHER game. This is *completely* inexcusable,” Boyd said. “To spit on someone?! We have every right to judge your character, which at the moment, it appears he doesn’t have much.”
For the Eagles, Carter’s absence left a notable gap in the defensive front. The Cowboys scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half, highlighting how significant Carter’s loss is to the Eagles defense.
Philadelphia’s bigger concern extends beyond the ejection itself. If the league decides to suspend Carter, the Eagles could be without one of their best defensive players as they look to be back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
Whether it turns into a suspension or a heavy fine, the fallout has once again highlighted the intensity of the Eagles-Cowboys rivalry.
