Even though every NFL team is in the thick of last-minute draft preparation, the Bucs are continuing to explore roster additions. After reuniting with veteran defensive tackle Rakeem Nunez-Roches on Friday, Tampa Bay will be bringing in a once highly touted offensive lineman for a workout this coming Thursday.
KPRC2’s Aaron Wilson reported that Kenyon Green will be coming into town as he looks to revive his career at his next stop.
Kenyon Green Has Struggled Mightily To Begin His NFL Career
Kenyon Green was the 15th overall pick by the Texans back in the 2022 NFL Draft. Green quickly became Houston’s starting left guard, playing in 15 games, starting 14 of them. He would then miss the entire 2023 season with a shoulder injury, and in 2024 he was not a full-time starter. Green played in 12 games that season, starting in nine of them.

Unfortunately, the experience he has gained has not done him many favors to this point. It only takes a quick look at his Pro Football Focus’ grades during this time to paint the picture of his struggles. In 2022, his 37.7 overall grade ranked 77th among 78 offensive guards, and his 2024 grade was more of the same, with a 39.7 mark that was 76th of 77.
Even though Houston’s offensive line has been a unit in disarray over the past couple of seasons, they ultimately moved on from Green, trading him to the Eagles last March. Green failed to stick in Philadelphia, as he was waived multiple times before landing on the Ravens’ practice squad.
Why Would The Bucs Even Be Interested In Kenyon Green, Then?
After reading the brief career summary of Kenyon Green above, one might ask why the Bucs would even be interested in someone who has very much profiled as a bust so far in the NFL. Diving deeper, there are some things to like about him as a developmental player.

Still just 25 years old, the 6-foot-4, 323-pound Green is not much older than the Day 2 and Day 3 offensive line prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft. Unlike any of them, he already has a couple of NFL seasons under his belt. Signing him for the league minimum would also mean that Tampa Bay could potentially save and allocate a draft pick at another position.
Even when he was traded to the Eagles after struggling with the Texans, his raw talent and athleticism enticed them enough to take a flier.
Philadelphia was intrigued by his potential, having one of the best systems to develop offensive linemen in the league. The Bucs could bring him in and try to solve what they could not fix. It would be a reclamation project of sorts, but offensive line coach Kevin Carberry is one of the best coaches at bringing big guys along and setting them up for success.
There would be no immediate pressure for Green as there was when he was drafted. If signed, he would enter a battle with Dan Feeney, Luke Haggard, and Elijah Klein for a 53-man roster spot. With Ben Bredeson and Cody Mauch currently penciled in as starters at each guard spot, he would have the chance to be coached up by Carberry and become a depth piece in a room that projects to be a top unit if fully healthy next season.
Kenyon Green is young enough to turn his career around, and it will be interesting to see what comes from the upcoming workout. At worst, it is a low-risk flier. At best, the Bucs could uncover a former first-round talent worth developing behind an already solid interior line.
