Austin Water to conduct simulated oil spill training Wednesday

ASAN (KXAN) – Austin Water employees will participate in a training exercise on Wednesday morning that mimics oil spill on Lake Austin, according to a press statement on Monday evening of the benefit of public water.

During the exercise, Austin will use water compound water, floating mutations and containment barriers, to contain simulations in the clock race. The timer depends on the speed in which the real spill can reach the raw water from the Ulrich water station near the Toms Miller Dam.

“This is a great opportunity for our teams to practice emergency scenarios that involve a joint multi -agency response,” said Shay Rales Rollson, Austin Water Manager. “These training processes enhance our emergency protocols and help Austin Water employees prepare for a set of emergency situations that enhance reliability and service continuity for our customers.”

The utility promised to issue it as “no pollutants in the water during exercise.”

The release is noted that the Lower Colorado River, Austin Waterchid, and commercial oil and gas experts will also participate in the exercise. This will allow groups and Austin water to earn more experience with “communication via acknowledgment” and “operational logistics services” for emergency response.

According to Austin Water, the exercise was created in response to the recommendations made by the University of Texas. Water and Environment Center. In 2023, the center published a report reviewing “Austin Water Quality”, which was pushed by water notification in Austin Water 2022.

The training exercise will continue from 7 am until 12 pm on Wednesday.
