Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group have held talks with potential new investors to join the Reds’ board.
Intriguingly, Amazon mogul Jeff Bezos has even been approached as a potential new investor at Anfield, with the Albuquerque-born businessman said to be worth over $250 billion.
In late 2022, FSG explored a partial sale of Liverpool, even selling a minority stake to Dynasty Equity valued between £82m and £164m, with this latest news reaffirming the group’s commitment to Liverpool, rather than suggesting the opposite.
FSG remain committed to Liverpool, despite latest investment talks
According to TEAMtalk, FSG have no intention of fully selling Liverpool, despite these latest talks.
Since 2010, the ownership have revolutionised the infrastructure of the club, increasing Anfield’s capacity to over 61,000 seats and opening a new training ground, with FSG looking to acquire another football club to run as an affiliate to the Reds – similarly to Manchester City’s City Football Group and Chelsea’s BlueCo.
Former Queens Park Rangers co-owner Amit Bhatia has led the latest round of investment talks with “prominent business figures”, which include Amazon honcho Bezos, as the FSG look to “welcome minority investors who can contribute to Liverpool’s continued growth”.
In 2011, NBA legend LeBron James and business partner Maverick Carter became minority investors in the Reds, with their stake upgraded 10 years later after the club’s first Premier League title was secured during COVID-19.
Liverpool remain extremely competitive in the transfer market, having splashed well over £400 million last summer in a spree that saw the likes of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak join for nine-figure sums.
The Reds are now embarking on a new era under former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola, with FourFourTwo understanding that the club are well aware that they will have to outsmart the market to compete with the likes of Man City and Paris Saint-Germain off the field.
TEAMtalk sources note that, “John W. Henry and Tom Werner remain as committed as ever to Liverpool and continue to view the club as a long-term cornerstone of the FSG portfolio.”
The Boston-headquartered conglomerate includes baseball franchise Boston Red Sox within its subsidiaries, with Getafe explored as a potential option as a sister club to Liverpool.
