A person accused of fatally assaulting a man near Boston Common early Wednesday was arrested hours later after he attacked a second victim with a metal pole in downtown Boston, police said.
At approximately 5:20 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Tremont Street and Boylston Street, near the MBTA Boylston Green Line station, and found a man “suffering from shock,” the Boston Police Department said in a statement. advertisement.
The victim was pronounced dead at Tufts Medical Center, police said. His identity was not revealed.
The second accident occurred hours later, shortly before 10 a.m., at the intersection of the John F. Kennedy Surface Road and Beach Street. The police said that the second victim was beaten from behind with a metal pole, causing him to fall to the ground.
The second victim was taken to hospital for treatment. Police did not determine the severity of his injuries.
Authorities arrested a suspect who was allegedly carrying a metal pole nearby. Investigators later determined that the person arrested for the assault on Beech Street was the same person involved in the incident at Boylston and Tremont streets, according to police.
Ashley Jeremy, 27, of Bedford, is charged with murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and theft under $1,200, police said.
Police said Jeremy is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
