Left-wing comedian Jon Stewart did a double take on Monday after spotting a man who closely resembled the commander-in-chief — whom he called a “back-up Trump” — strolling near the president.
“The Daily Show” host focused on the president’s lookalike after the game section From Trump’s statements to reporters at Joint Base Andrews after the World Cup final in New Jersey.
The clip showed a man in a navy suit and blue tie, who appeared to be about the same age as Trump, and had a similar build and gait, strolling near Air Force One at the same time the president was addressing the media, much to Stewart’s dismay.
“What’s the story behind the man behind Trump? Can we see that again? Can you show that?” Stewart said after the clip played.
“Who is this man?” The stunned comedian exclaimed, “Who the hell is that? Oh my God! Is this a Trump supporter?”
Stewart went on to jokingly suggest that the mystery man might serve as Trump’s body double.
“Wait, what? Wait, who? What? Is that Trump’s backup or is that Trump?” He said. “Wait, is the person we were dealing with a Trump supporter or is it Trump?”
Trump’s lookalike appears to be none other than his father-in-law, Viktor Knavs, who attended the World Cup final with the president and his daughter, First Lady Melania Trump.
The Knavs would make an imperfect pairing, since he’s two years older than the president, has gray hair and is a bit shorter than Trump — but from the camera angle Stewart used, they look eerily similar.
Body double conspiracy theories related to the Trump White House have been floated before.
During the president’s first term, the Internet was flooded with unsubstantiated allegations that Melania used a body double.
The #FakeMelania allegations even sparked an angry response from the president.
“Fake news photoshopped Melania and then promoted conspiracy theories that she is not actually on my side in Alabama and elsewhere,” Trump wrote on X in March 2019.
“They’re getting more confusing over time!” The president got angry.
