1 woman killed, another injured in late-night Taunton crash

The driver, 26-year-old Selena Mendez, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and died shortly after.

One woman was killed and another was injured late Friday night in a single-vehicle crash in Taunton, authorities said.

Taunton police and emergency responders responded to a crash near 266 County St. at about 11:15 p.m. and found a 2001 Honda Accord leaning against a telephone pole with extensive damage to the driver’s side, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

The driver, 26-year-old Taunton resident Selena Mendez, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after, the district attorney’s office said. Her passenger, a 23-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries.

Authorities have provided few details about the circumstances of the crash, which remains under investigation by the Taunton Police Department and Massachusetts State Police investigators with the District Attorney’s Office.

No further information was available on Monday.
