Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and his family were the victims of a home invasion in Chester County early Saturday morning, the district attorney’s office said. Per NBC 10 Philadelphia.
The accident happened around 5 a.m. in the Malvern section of Tredyffrin Township.
Police officers intervened in the area and received a report of a robbery, and when the police arrived at the scene, the suspects fled the house. According to authorities, a suspect is believed to have entered the former Giant’s home, but nothing was reported taken.
Barclay and his family were in the house during the invasion but none of them were left unharmed.
“All of the occupants of the home were in good physical condition, obviously a little unstable like everyone else, but no one was hurt,” said Capt. Tyler Moyer of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department.
“We are extremely grateful that the Barkley family was not harmed during this incident. We are asking the public to help us identify those responsible by checking any home security cameras for suspicious activity in the area around 5:00 a.m. If you see anything unusual or have video that may assist investigators, please contact the Tredyffrin Township Police Department immediately,” the District Attorney’s Office said.
Authorities are tracking down remaining unknown details of the accident, including information about a large white SUV that may have been involved, but it is possible that more than one vehicle was used.
“We know there was more than one, but we are still trying to determine how many were involved,” Muir added.
Barkley, who was preparing for his third season with Philadelphia, is the latest victim amid growing security concerns around professional athletes.
Over the past year, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Sabrina Ionescu have had home invasion incidents of their own.
Just days ago, the home of Spanish star Lamine Yamal was targeted just hours before a World Cup semi-final match.
Over the past two years, a number of other NFL stars have had their homes burgled, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
“We’re going to look at this from all angles because we know, obviously, it’s been in all the news the last few years about various professional athletes having their homes burgled,” Muir said.
The Chester County Prosecutor’s Office is assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing.
