Madewell 6,000 sweaters risk death

A major clothing brand has begun recalling nearly 6,000 women’s jackets due to failure to meet federal safety standards for flammability, causing a risk of “serious burn injury or death,” according to a recent U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (Consumer Product Safety Commission) notes.

The safety recall affects the Madewell Double-Neck Pullover and V-Neck Cardigan styles, available in light blue and cream.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) says, “The recalled sweaters violate the mandatory standard Garment textilesThis poses a risk of serious burns or death.”

These items were sold in Madewell and TJ Maxx stores, as well as through their respective websites, between December 2024 and October 2025.

To determine if a garment is part of the recall, owners should check the interior labels.

Affected jackets feature a “Madewell” neck tag and side seam label marked with model numbers NT611 or NT612 or the code “HO24”.

Although no injuries have been reported so far, the company has documented one case in which a jacket caught fire.

The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop wearing the clothing to avoid potential burn risks.

Madewell is offering full refunds to all affected customers.

To claim a refund, you must cut the jacket in half, take a photo of the destroyed garment and email it to 24-7@madewell.com before disposing of it.
