State Police said the three children involved suffered “unknown injuries,” while one adult was seriously injured in the incident.
A woman was killed and four others were injured in a traffic accident on a highway in Andover on Wednesday evening, police said.
State Police troopers responded to a call about a vehicle on fire on I-495 North just before Route 93 in Andover at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, the agency said in a statement.
The forces found a small truck carrying two adults and three children. One adult, a 25-year-old Lawrence woman who was a passenger in the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. The other adult driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the three children were also taken to hospital with unknown injuries, the agency said.
State Police said that the accident occurred between another sedan, and its driver did not appear to be injured.
Video from the scene by WCVB It showed the remains of the pickup truck, which appeared to have been completely engulfed in flames, and the sedan, which had extensive damage to its rear bumper and trunk.
The incident remains under investigation, according to state police.
