The body of a person was found floating in a river near the Department of Public Works in Brockton on Thursday, authorities announced.

About 5 p.m., Brockton police received reports from DPW employees about a dead man floating in the river near the city’s water treatment plant around 5 p.m., Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz’s office said in a statement. press release.

The Massachusetts State Police Underwater Resuscitation Unit recovered the body and transported it to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the prosecutor’s office said.

Cruz’s office said authorities were unable to identify the deceased man.

The DA’s Office said an active investigation into the incident is underway.

The bodies of two men were found at a water treatment plant in the spring and summer of 2024; Officials said each time there was no suspicion of foul play.
