Two people were injured and another died after a shooting erupted early Sunday morning in Hampton Beach.

A shooting turned deadly over the Fourth of July weekend in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, according to officials.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office said that at 1:19 a.m. Sunday, Hampton Police responded to 29 Ocean Blvd. For a report of a shooting.

When first responders arrived, they found a 23-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. First responders transported them to the hospital for further treatment.

Later in the early morning, police contacted the shooting suspect at the intersection of P Street and Ashworth Street, the DA said. The man, later identified as Tyshawn Cooper, 21, of South Carolina, pulled out a gun and raised it. Then he shot himself in the head, while an officer also shot him.

Police pronounced Cooper dead at the scene.

An autopsy performed later in the day found Cooper’s cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the head, not an officer-initiated gunshot wound.

The incident remains under active investigation.
