Socialist Colorado candidate Melat Kiros blames Israel for ‘putting Jewish people in danger’

Colorado socialist congressional candidate Milat Kiros blamed Israel’s activity in the Middle East for inciting attacks on Jews in other countries during an interview Wednesday.

Kiros is part of a wave of far-left, anti-Israel candidates who have gained popularity in the Democratic Party.

She won the primary in her Denver-area district this week, ousting longtime incumbent Diana DeGette after far-left candidates won New York’s primary last month.

Colorado Attorney General and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Weiser condemned her reluctance to answer whether the deadly attack on a pro-Israel rally in Boulder last year could be described as anti-Semitic. Bringing a 9News host to Kyros Earlier this week.

“I just spoke with Attorney General Phil Weiser, who won the Democratic primary for governor last night. He’s very likely to be the next governor of Colorado in the same way he’s very likely to be a member of Colorado’s congressional delegation next year,” the host noted.

“He has some real concerns about things I’ve said about Israel and, in particular, about firebombing Jewish people in Boulder, and he told me he’d like to sit down and have a conversation with you so you can hear where he’s coming from and he can hear where I’m coming from. Are you open to that?”

“Sure,” she said at the prospect of a conversation with Weiser. “You know, at the end of the day, what happened in Boulder was a horrific attack on a group of Jews who were peacefully protesting, and we see that Israel’s actions put the Jewish people in great danger.

“And the hatred and anti-Semitism that is rising as a result is what I intend to prioritize and combat.

Muhammad Suleiman killed an 82-year-old woman and injured others in an attack on pro-Israel protesters, June 1, 2025.

“I’m really looking forward to sitting down with Phil Weiser to see how we can work together to combat this hate.”

In the aforementioned interview, Kyros said of the convicted bomber: “I don’t know what was in the heart of the perpetrator. All I know is that he went and attacked innocent people because of what they would have thought, and I don’t even know what the people who were at that protest would have thought either.”

“In fact, most of them were probably just there, you know, to demand that the people who were kidnapped during October 7 be returned home to their families. And that’s not a political statement per se.”

The Muhammad Suleiman attack occurred on June 1, 2025, and targeted a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder. 82-year-old Karen Diamond was killed, and about a dozen others were injured.

Suleiman appeared to disguise himself as a gardener before going to work, throwing two burning projectiles at demonstrators, according to prosecutors.

He pleaded guilty in May to the charges, including murder, and was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole.

Suleiman expressed his regret for his crime and even said that he deserved the death penalty. The New York Times reported. He denied that his motive was hatred of Jews, but launched into what The Times called “a diatribe against Zionism, which he described as the ‘enemy’.”

He could still face the death penalty on federal hate crime charges.

Kyros made her opposition to Israel the centerpiece of her successful primary campaign. She said in her victory speech after winning the nomination One of its main goals It was to “end the genocide in Palestine.”
