Hizzoner…Dave Portnoy?
Barstool restaurant owner Dave Portnoy said he’s considering running for elected office because of his frustrations with the Big Apple’s current leadership — adding that he “would love to run against” Mayor Zahran Mamdani.
“I would love to run against him. If I were to run, it would be here,” Portnoy said when asked if he would consider running against the Democratic socialist mayor of New York City on “Jesse Waters Prime Time” Monday night.
A reviewer for The One Bite Pizza told host Jesse Watters that he had previously thought he would “never get into politics”, but the threat of being judged by “idiots” made him reconsider his stance.
“I spend a lot of my day losing my mind over what’s going on, especially in New York,” Portnoy said.
He also criticized the Democratic Party, criticizing the growing wave of left-wing socialists who won big in the recent elections under his banner.
“What the Democrats did is they let the fox into the hen house. And now he’s rampaging and kicking them all out,” Portnoy said in a veiled swing at Mamdani.
Three far-left candidates in Congress with the support of the mayor won the primaries last Tuesday, defeating their Democratic opponents.
The New England native admitted that his thoughts on entering politics change based on the day.
Some days, he said, he has no desire to get into the “mess.”
On other days, the civic mind overcame the man nicknamed “The President.”
“Sometimes, I feel like it’s my duty. I can’t walk away. I feel like I can make a difference. Maybe I’ll run for politics,” Portnoy said.
As for his political bona fide, Portnoy said he had a “real job” and “did real things.”
He added: “Unlike these clown politicians who have never had a job and who have never been in the real world for a single day.”
But will the Massachusetts resident succeed in New York? It is believed that this question is still up in the air.
“Can I win here? I don’t know. I don’t know the demographics, if I can get enough votes,” Portnoy told Waters.
“There are a lot of people who love me in New York City. I know that,” he said.
