PewterReportTV has launched a new regular video series called Bucs Cap Convo featuring Pewter Report’s salary cap expert Josh Queipo. These episodes – typically eight to 12 minutes in length – on Pewter Report’s YouTube channel PewterReportTV offer up Queipo’s insight and expert analysis on Buccaneers salary cap-related topics, such as contract extensions, salary cap cuts, player valuations, salary cap space and anything related to what general manager Jason Licht and assistant general manager Mike Greenberg are dealing with.
Legendary Tampa Bay head coach Bruce Arians said on a recent episode of the Pewter Report Podcast that he is confident Baker Mayfield and the Bucs will come to an agreement on a contract extension. But Mayfield’s most public comments on the situation is that the two sides are, “nowhere close.” And with a self-imposed deadline of training camp before Mayfield wants to focus purely on the field, the days are ticking down to this saga bleeding into next offseason.
In this episode of Bucs Cap Convo, Scott Reynolds and Queipo discuss where the two sides might be in terms of “comps” – deals signed by players of a similar caliber that help define a player’s market – and what players and contracts the two sides are drawing from to create a gap that may be up to or just beyond $10 million per year. Tampa Bay likely wants a deal under or closer to $50 million, while Mayfield could be asking for Dak Prescott money, which is $60 million per year.
