Man allegedly stole nearly $2,000 from Medford church donation boxes

A man is facing numerous charges, including theft, after he stole nearly $2,000 from church donation boxes, according to Medford police.

Michael Bagley, 60, was arrested Sunday in Medford Square after morning services at St. Joseph Parish, police said. On Facebook. He is charged with one count of theft of more than $1,200 through one scheme, along with six counts of theft from a building, breaking into a store, and possession of a burglary tool, according to court records.

Bagley was arraigned Monday in Somerville District Court, where he pleaded not guilty. He posted $100 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on August 26, records show.

On June 15, Medford Police learned that a man was collecting money from church donation boxes at St. Joseph Parish and St. Francis Church after Sunday Mass. Police said the parishes reviewed video footage and found evidence dating back to May 19.

Bagley is suspected of stealing nearly $2,000 from the two churches over the course of a month, according to police. Investigators also learned that he had committed similar robberies in several surrounding cities and towns.

Court records indicate Bagley is unhoused. It was not immediately clear Wednesday evening whether he had an attorney representing him.
