Police have arrested a 21-year-old Florida man for participating in the vandalism of a yellow taxi in Manhattan after the Knicks’ miracle win in Game 4 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.
The New York Police Department confirmed that Saul Vargas, of St. Cloud, Florida, was among the group that jumped on the hood and roof of the car and smashed its windows in a video that went viral showing the men brazenly sitting on top of the wrecked car and waving the Palestinian flag.
However, police said he was not one of the people shown in the video, which was filmed around 12:30 a.m. June 11 at the corner of 36th Street and 7th Avenue as thousands crowded the downtown streets in a night of violence and chaos.
Vargas, who was charged with criminal mischief, turned himself in Monday night in the south downtown area.
Police arrested 56 people that night on a number of charges including assault on a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief.
Of these, 41 were released under summons.
