Multiple people injured after gunfire rings out in South Carolina mall

Several people were injured after a shooting Saturday afternoon at South Carolina’s largest mall.

The Greenville Police Department told Fox News Digital that two people were taken to the hospital after the accident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. local time at Haywood Mall in Greenville.

According to the administration, many people are detained.

“The scene is active but contained,” a spokesperson said.

Officials said there is no danger to the public, but “it may take some time” before first responders can evacuate the area.

The City of Greenville Fire Department and other law enforcement officials are assisting with the evacuations.

The city’s public transportation system, Greenlink, is providing an air-conditioned bus for evacuees to keep cool, and the mall will be closed for an indefinite period of time, according to police.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to additional inquiries from Fox News Digital.
