New Hampshire man arrested in 1993 homicide of Maine woman

A New Hampshire man was charged with murder Thursday in connection with the 1993 killing of a Maine woman.

Maine State Police said Daniel Jolly, 59, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was arrested at about 6 a.m. Thursday. On Facebook. He will remain in New Hampshire until extradited to Maine.

Police said Jolie killed Maxine Petomsky, 73, of Kittery, Maine, more than three decades ago. Pitmoski was found dead in her home on the afternoon of January 16, 1993.

Since then, the Maine State Police and Kittery Police Department have been investigating the case. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy the day after Petomsky’s death, but the cause of death was not revealed because court documents were sealed, according to police.

Police said Jolie knew Pitomski through his job at Medical Market, a Portsmouth-based medical supply company that provided oxygen equipment and services to her before her death. Maine investigators began revisiting the case in 2021, and their renewed efforts eventually led to Jolly’s arrest.

“This arrest reflects the determination and commitment of investigators who never stopped working on this case,” Maine State Police Lt. Tom Pickering said. “The work done by current and retired Maine State Police detectives, members of the Maine State Police Crime Lab and the Kittery Police Department over the past 33 years has been instrumental in bringing this case to this point.”
