Apocalyptic predictions of climate change have been box office gold for Hollywood, but they have done untold damage to the public psyche, the economy, and the common man’s wallet.
Now the influential UN panel on climate change has quietly ignored the dire temperature-rising scenarios used in two previous reports predicting apocalyptic consequences of global warming if greenhouse emissions are not curbed.
For years, left-wing groups — based on questionable climate science — have been screaming about the coming climate catastrophe: The New York Times warned that “climate change is damaging the planet faster than we can adapt to it,” “climate change is accelerating toward catastrophe,” and “a hotter future is certain.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) insisted that the world will end by 2030 if we don’t address climate change — by which she meant wasting trillions of dollars on the Green New Deal and a return to a Stone Age-style lifestyle.
Democrats went to extremes in accepting the UN-backed Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report’s predictions of a dramatic rise in sea levels, rapidly melting glaciers, global crop failure, and even the eventual extinction of humanity.
But let’s face it: the UN’s scenarios were exaggerated from the beginning, and left-wing climate advocates promoted them even more.
The latest IPCC report credits renewable energy sources, global climate policy and recent emissions trends with making the most dire predictions “unreasonable.”
