Sunday at Austin Hedges wasn’t too bad.
First, the Guardians picked up an 8-4 win over the Orioles, then the former World Series winner took the field at Progressive Field on Sunday.
Hedges asked his old girlfriend, Lexi Dixon, for her hand in marriage, with a message appearing over the video board on the field, with his teammates watching. She said yes, of course, and those inside the stadium cheered.
Hedges, who has been dating Dixon since November 2024, told reporters that he had gotten the ring since spring training and that he found out what his plan would be “just a couple of weeks ago.”
The Progressive Field’s jumbotron read: “Lexi, will you marry me?” Let the festive moment begin. From there, Hedges got down on one knee.
The 33-year-old would have suggested whether Guardians won or lost, but he certainly looked happy with his ballclub’s victory.
“I was really hoping we would win the match,” he added. According to cleveland.com. “I was going to do it regardless, but I really wanted to win that game to make it extra special.”
“There was a lot of stress, a lot of tension,” Hedges added. “I’m always nervous going to baseball games… and I just try to stay present, knowing there’s going to be some activities afterward. But it’s a special day. It’s special to be able to take it all in.”
The couple wasn’t planning any kind of flashy celebration on Sunday night.
Hedges said they were going “to dinner and then have a night to ourselves and enjoy it.”
The Guardians’ win on Sunday helped them win the four-game series against the Orioles.
Cleveland currently sits atop the American League Central with a 13-10 record, a half-game behind the Tigers.
Hedges won’t have much time to celebrate his engagement with the Guardians back on the field Monday hosting the Astros as they begin a three-game series at Progressive Field.
