Robert McIntyre has an explanation for his terrible Masters week.
Scottish golfer He told journalist Martin Dempster He was suffering from a neck injury before the tournament, and almost pulled out before trying it out at Augusta National.
He suffered the injury while working out at the gym, according to Dempster.
The news comes after McIntyre endured two miserable days at the Masters on Thursday and Friday before passing up the opportunity and heading home early.
On Thursday, McIntyre had an eight-over 80, which was tied for the seventh-worst showing in the first round of the tournament.
He had his lowest on the par-5 15th hole, when he turned in a quadruple bogey after hitting the ball into the water twice.
In the middle of that disastrous 15th hole, McIntyre flipped out on a TV camera and was later reprimanded by Masters officials. He was reminded of the code of conduct.
During the second round, with the picture almost completely cut, McIntyre shot a one-under 71, falling short of the cut line by four strokes.

After that round, the 29-year-old Scot refused to speak to reporters for the second day in a row.
He later highlighted the incident on social media, posting an AI-generated photo of one of the famous Masters’ dwarves wearing the same outfit McIntyre was wearing while flashing the middle finger on his Instagram Story on Friday.
MacIntyre finished fourth at the Players Championship and tied for second at the upcoming Valero Open this weekend, making the left-handed swinger a popular choice to be in the mix on Sunday.
McIntyre, the No. 8 golfer in the world, entered the weekend seeking the first major championship win of his career.
