Following the tournament, Gotterup chatted with the journalist in a post-match interview. The golfer let his emotions go as he wept midway through the interview. The Instagram page of the PGA Tour shared this clip with the following caption,
“An emotional victory for Chris Gotterup”
Phelps responded to the same by sharing the clip on his timeline with the following caption,

Gotterup has earned a top-20 entry in the golf rankings with this victory. The golfer stands at number 17 after the two-shot victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Michael Phelps And His Passion For Golf
Phelps retired from competitive swimming just days after winning six medals [including five gold] at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The Olympic champion swimmer decided to pursue his passion for golf on a semi-professional basis.
Phelps also attended the Paris Olympics, especially the golf arena, which hosted the golf competition. In his interview with NBC Sports, the Olympic champion swimmer revealed his passion for golf as he remarked,
“I’m a golf nut, so being able to just pick up on ball position, grip, length of backswing, whatever it might be.… I’m a super technical person. That’s how I had to be in my sport, so golf is kind of nice that way. I gravitated towards this (sport), and here we are. I’m a psycho in the game, and I love it.
“For me, I was pumped to watch Ludvig (Åberg), somebody who’s really kind of made a name for himself over the last year or so on TOUR, and for me. I love his approach to the game. Some of his drills that he does, I’ve tried to do them, though not as well. Obviously, Rahmbo (Jon Rahm) is a good friend of mine, and Wyndham (Clark) for Team USA. For me, it’s just seeing these guys up close,” Phelps added.
It would be interesting to see if Phelps returns to the Olympics as a professional golfer. For now, he is enjoying the sport as any passionate sports buff would.
